My Students

My students are a group of learners who are inspired and driven by the long term idea of building and developing themselves to not only be good students, but good and decent human beings!

My school is located in an area that is fighting to hold onto it's identity.

A large majority of my students are English Language Learners from so many different countries around the world. Along with that, I have students who struggle with emotional issues, learning disabilities, dyslexia, and physical struggles that cause them to receive occupational therapy on a weekly basis. I work in a Title 1 school, which means that an overwhelming majority of the students who attend my school receive free or reduced price lunch. My students inspire me on a daily basis with their constant perseverance through obstacles that some adults may not even be able to handle.

My Project

With many ELL students in my classroom, sometimes my direct instruction is not enough. Technology is a world untapped in the school that I work in, and I want to be the first to give it a try. There are hundreds of reading, phonics, and language programs out there; and I want my students to learn from them, too. For my students with learning disabilities, working with technology provides another vessel through which they could learn and through which I could adapt the educational services to fit their specific needs. For my students who struggle with dyslexia, with technology, they would read and write with more confidence, ease, and engagement. For my students who receive OT, it will give them the opportunity to not become overwhelmed with a feeling of "I can't do this," when it came time to write. I am also trying to bring history to life in my classroom. I will be able to provide children with the use of images, videos, sound effects and even foster and inspire INDEPENDENT RESEARCH! To do all of this, we need 2 Google Chromebooks.

I am asking for your help to fund 2 Google Chromebooks to be used in my classroom this year and for countless years to come.

If anything, for many of my students, it will be one of the first and few times in their childhood that they use a computer or access the internet. I want to give my students a chance to experience a world beyond the four walls of their homes or our classroom, while helping to close the achievement gap by developing their technological skills at a young age.
