We are a small public charter school in San Bernardino CA. Our students are excited to learn new things and love having individualized attention. They come from all different backgrounds and have different living situations. Our whole school works really hard to help keep students engaged and parents informed about what is going on at school. I work with students that are struggling with different things or that might need a little extra attention individually, in small groups, as well as virtual classroom SEL lessons. Many of these kids have not learned basic social skills or have challenges that make it harder for them to develop these relational skills. Also, many of them have not had a healthy example of how to cope with emotions, and need some help developing these skills and having someone work with them so they can be successful both in school and at home.
These students are resilient and incredible and deserve every opportunity to be successful in academics and life.
My Project
These items will help to continue that SEL is supported in the virtual format and keep us up to date on how to support students virtually. SEL From a Distance and CBT Toolbox for Children and Adolescents are both resources to help continue to support students in the ever changing virtual and hybrid forms of education today. Giving us new ways to support SEL at a distance. Conversation cards help spack new impactful conversations between students and educators. To help ease the transition and anxieties coming back to school students will benfit from the Power Your Fun Stress Balls, Mochi squishy toys and Marble fidget toys.
My goal is to give all students a fidget or stress reliever to reinforce positive coping skills that will help through this transitional school year.
Positive affirmation stickers and student joke cards will be daily reminders to students that they can do anything! Journaling is a great way to relieve anxieties, stress and encourage self-development. Our students love writing and drawing and journals give them that essential place to do so. Positive messaging is so important even from a distance and banners are a great way to reinforce positive messaging even while at a distance wether students see them in our hallways while in hybrid learning or in the background while virtual learning. Our kiddos all deserve the best to help them through this transition, they have been through so much already. Thank you for your help!
