A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
When I get to school, I like to put my things away, say hi to another teacher or two, check my email one last time, and ease into the day. However, when it comes to my students, I've been starting them off with a worksheet to complete first thing in the morning. Why do I give myself a soft start to the day but expect something completely different from my first graders? Soft starts offer a bridge between the whirlwind of arriving to school and the social, mental, and academic demands of the day. I want to provide my students the opportunity to transition to a school environment and build community with their peers. Therefore, I'm saying goodbye to boring morning work and giving my fabulous first graders the opportunity to ease into their school day routines and learning with play.
Morning Play will offer a welcome into the school day that an expectation of silence and morning worksheets do not.
I am requesting various manipulatives, such as tangrams, interlocking blocks, play-doh, and more for the numerous benefits they provide to the minds of young students. These benefits include but are not limited to mathematics; physical development; personal, social, and emotional development; and communication and literacy.
As the teacher, I have done extensive research in determining which manipulatives will best support my students' learning, but I truly need your support to make this a reality. Thank you!
