My Project

I teach 8th graders in a suburban school in Queens, New York. I have 165 students that range from advanced students that take the Living Environment Regents course for high school credit, to general education classes that take General Science. In the general science classes, there are high performing students, English Language learners, and students with special needs that are in an ICT setting where there is a special education teacher that co-teaches with me to help all students achieve.

It is much easier to read the writing on a whiteboard than a chalkboard due to the clean white background.

There is also the added bonus of being able to use different colored markers easily as they stand out much more than colored chalk does on a chalkboard. Whiteboards are easier to clean and do not create the dust that comes from using chalk. Studies show that red and blue colors are the best for enhancing cognitive skills and improving brain function. There would be a great benefit for my science students if they could use these colors when drawing diagrams instead of using white chalk on a light black chalkboard.
