Help me give my students a head start on publishing their essays and stories by supplying good books by good writers about good writing. With your donation, my composition students could "publish their article in 12 weeks!"
My students in our low-income, rural community, are fun-loving, sweet, yet some of them struggle with engagement, especially when it involves traditional subjects or conventional approaches to education.
My students of wildly differing abilities thrive when they can collaborate on engaging activities, especially when I provide a teen-friendly environment for them to explore!
They love to laugh and move and think together, especially when I can show them the joy in learning academic subjects! School may not always be their natural, primary focus, but they are bright, confident, caring and excited to try new endeavors, especially when I can connect literacy to their lives in the real world. What can I say? I love them!
My Project
Many of my students are dedicated, devoted readers and writers who want to see their words published in the world, and I believe they can accomplish this goal by learning how great writing works.
To improve their own writing, students need to read powerful, effective prose, especially the inspiring words of authors who spark desire for excellence.
The texts in this project either explicitly analyze how language works, explicitly describe the process of producing publishable essays and stories, or explicitly model the kind of writing that we all want to read: authentic, strong, thought provoking, unexpected, active, and, above all, well crafted.
