My Project

The student population that I teach consists of high school students with multiple disabilities, which do not slow them down at all in their quest toward growth, transition, and independence.

If you were to meet the students in my class, you would see that their abilities far outshine their disabilities and given the proper support through academics and the arts, our students rise to the occasion and shine bright like stars.

While my students have the capability and the grit to express themselves through academics, ADL skills, and the arts, they also have significant sensory needs and require appropriate sensory materials during all literacy activities to focus and relax. That's where donors like you come in.

All of the requested items will be used to create a special corner in our classroom where the students can practice their financial and reading literacy skills in a relaxed sensory zone. The mat and bean bags will help students stretch out during the day and will allow our students with limited mobility to stretch out while classroom staff read their favorite stories to them. Other items will be used as manipulatives to support financial literacy based on student wants and needs. It is imperative for my students to have selective play options while they practice their literacy skills so that they look forward to working on financial literacy each day.
