My Students

My students are diverse. They come from many different backgrounds. This neighborhood has many new immigrants. Our students vary from regular education kids to mainstream kids as well as 12:1 kids.

Our school's motto is "Committed to Excellence." We strive to give our students the best resources we can.

Many of them need hands-on materials and manipulatives so that they can "see" what is happening. Most days we break up into small groups to do mini-lessons to review or strengthen concepts.

Our goal is to try our best to help the kids meet their goals!

My Project

One of the science units in 5th grade involve health and nutrition. In this unit, we teach students that eating a balanced meal is essential to their health and growth. We discuss the importance of choosing foods that will help our body. We also teach students the importance of taking care of ourselves and our appearance as well. We show students how to brush and floss their teeth properly and why it is so important to do so every day. By the end of the unit, students know how to make healthy food choices, create a meal plan on their own and how to take care of their body. With the help of the donors, students who don't have certain items at home can be supplied with them. Students can get combs, deodorants, toothbrushes and even dental floss! Students don't always have what they need and this would be a great way to help them get started.
