My Students

Welcome to Z Lightning Exceptional Children! This class serves students with a variety of moderate to severe intellectual disabilities in the self contained setting. We focus on all core areas of academics within our class with an emphasis on functionality and job skills. Our students are full of energy and creativity.

We celebrate our students' abilities and uniqueness.

As a teacher at a low income/high poverty school, my students face many challenges at home and at school. Despite the many challenges my students face at home, they enjoy being at school in order to experience new things while learning.

My Project

Good hygiene helps us stay healthy and good practice helps us gain independence! With these hygiene products, my students will be able to practice daily how to keep themselves feeling and looking good. To most, brushing our teeth or combing our hair comes naturally or takes little practice. My students need a bit more practice in order to become independent in these tasks.

In our class, we work on gaining independence in many areas such as job skills.

A first impression can make or break a job opportunity. By practicing good hygiene, my students can walk into a job interview knowing they look (and smell!) great. My students follow a morning routine by eating breakfast, using the restroom, completing their job, and filling out a job application. Hygiene time would naturally fit into our morning routine. Students would follow a check list to wash their face, comb their hair, brush their teeth, put on deodorant, and check their clothing.

Your donation would go towards each student getting their own "hygiene kit" including a hygiene bag, face wash, hair comb, tooth brush, tooth paste, floss, and deodorant. Students will be in charge of keeping up with their hygiene kits. They will keep their toothbrushes clean by using a toothbrush cover. They will also keep their face wash cloth clean by doing laundry using the Tide pods.

Please help my students gain more independence in caring for themselves and fulfill their new year's resolution to have good hygiene!
