This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are amazing children who unfortunately have to deal with some very adult matters. Living in a major city that is plagued by violence paired with COVID and a very high divorce rate means that my students experience many losses.

If a student's social emotional status is not healthy, they CAN NOT learn.

Though a loss is never easy, I would like to provide my students with items to help ease their pain and teach them effective strategies to manage their grief. Grief is a hard topic that no one likes to address. Items in this project are fun activities that will support the grieving process. We will create memory boxes so that students can store prized possessions. We will create memorial stones that can be placed in our school garden. Students will also be invited to decorate a picture frame in honor of their loss. Snacks and water will be provided to assist with creating a soothing environment. By teaching students how to effectively handle their emotions related to grief, we are helping them turn Good Mourning into Good Morning!
