This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
As a librarian, I do my best to acquire great books for my kids to read. I also try to acquire books as students (and teachers) request them for independent reading and for classroom use. Often, this means I will buy the books requested myself, but my ability to do that is limited. Without a dedicated library budget, I am limited in what I can provide. One of the best letters I ever got from a student thanked me for making the library a safe space and for the magic of being able to request a book and have it appear days later. My eager readers come often, requesting new recommendations. They tell me finding new books is like Christmas. Help me make it Christmas every day!
