My Students

In this day and age, high school students are obsessed with online video hosting and watching videos. My Journalism class wants to catch up with the times and begin producing video broadcasts for our audience.

My journalism students, who attend a small, inner-city school, have a challenge, and they are facing it head-on.

We are struggling, due to budget cuts, with getting the news out to our community. The students have been entrusted with a project to increase readership in the next semester. One plan to accomplish this, which THEY have developed, is to begin sharing clips of school news with students through broadcasts shared throughout the school and on the Internet.

My Project

My students have a challenge to get the news to more students and parents, and they believe video broadcasts are part of the solution. But it will be nearly impossible to achieve their goal if we don't have a camcorder. We are requesting a camcorder, memory card, and head phones to record and then edit the video stories that they hope to tell. Students will learn to tell a story through video and will learn how to edit video on the computer. They will be fully in charge of the production, so it will give them a chance to have a real-world experience.

My students have a plan and a dream.

I don't want them to have to give that up due to a lack of resources. With this camera, they can learn to initiate a plan and see it through to the end. My students don't have a lot of personal resources, so this camcorder will be essential in letting them find success.
