Going green has been the theme at our school this year. We have planted 1,000 daffodil bulbs, started a school garden, and have improved our recycling program.
I teach 27 enthusiastic students in a small school in rural Northern California.
Our class is large, but I have very eager students who love to learn. With such motivated students, it is so much fun to add exciting programs to supplement our curriculum. They appreciate having new and innovative methods to help them learn.
My Project
My students need two earthboxes, a foam model of seed to plant, Eric Carle prints, and two puppet/book sets. All of these materials will be used to enhance our environmental studies. The two earthboxes will be used to plant herbs around the perimeter of our garden to ward off pests naturally. The foam model kit will be used during our study on plants and animals. A huge focus in this unit is parts of plants and how the parts are used to get and process food. The foam kit will give the kids a visual of what a plant looks like when dissected. The prints and puppets will tie in the literacy piece so students can re-enact two animals stories. These stories focus on animals and their habitats.
By helping fund this project, you will be helping our garden grow.
We have had a lot of success with our garden this year, planting broccoli, carrots, radishes, and much more. The literacy materials will help reinforce the importance of taking care of our earth. Thank you for helping us keep with our movement of going green.
