My Students

My class consists of 11 autistic students in grades K-5 with functional levels that vary from Pre-K to 3rd. I am so impressed that they try so hard to complete tasks/assignments and help each other to be successful. They are all of low socioeconomic households and I do my best to get the supplies needed for the school year. My lessons are modified and adapted for their various abilities.

All of my students are speech impaired, some are non-verbal.

They are excited when they interact with Alexa, asking questions about presidents, the time and the weather. They take turns laughing at Alexa's jokes.

My Project

The Dash Bot, Ozobot, programmable mouse robots, and other robots will help my autistic students learn coding and improve their social skills. Their sitting and listening skills will be exercised so they can learn how to use these robots. All of my students are speech impaired, and interacting helps with increasing the length of their sentences. They will also have to practice taking turns sharing the robots.

Autistic students rarely have the opportunity to interact with technology like programmable robots.

This will be an exciting way for them to learn about math and science. The smiles on their faces and their laughter will be so rewarding.
