My Project

My students study agriculture in an urban high school. Many learn best with hands-on projects and visual examples of the concepts they are studying. They are also very interested in learning about different animals and love having classroom pets to care for. A Glofish aquarium will provide classroom pets with a calming environment to help them learn about Biology concepts.

Glofish are a fascinating example of genetic manipulation.

While students learn genetics, we can refer to the fish to learn how genes are added to organisms for positive purposes. We can also refer to them as examples of other concepts throughout the year.

Not only will the aquarium provide a visual example of genetic manipulation, it will also be a calming exhibit in the classroom. Who doesn't love to watch fish in aquaria? We may even be able to study the effect of watching fish on blood pressure and pulse rate during our homeostasis unit.
