My Students

We must keep our students safe from chemical burns that are caused by using concentrated acids and bases when doing chemistry experiments. Also, students are protected if they have allergic reactions to certain chemicals.

My school is a Title 1 school.

Most of my students are economically disadvantaged and do not have resources and have had limited exposure to laboratory experiments. My chemistry classes include regular, honors, and International Baccalaureate students who need to learn about safety practices as well as manipulative skills needed for industry jobs and college. I teach 150-180 students per year. My students are really engaged when doing lab activities. Experiments are essential since chemistry curriculum requires lab activity. My students think that the experiments are really fun. In the past, my chemistry students came to class and said that they heard about certain experiments that their friends did and ask if they are going to do the experiments too. My students have experiments after each topic to give application to the theory that is learned.

My Project

Students will use the gloves to protect themselves from corrosive chemicals, as well as chemicals that can cause health problems to the skin. Gloves that are impermeable to corrosive chemicals are essential to chemistry. Since International Baccalaureate Program is taught, the students must do 30 hours of lab work. The 30 hours of lab requires that students must use gloves for protection.

The nitrile gloves protect students from being hurt.

This donation will give every chemistry student a chance to do certain experiments, which are required by the chemistry programs that are taught. If they do not receive gloves, they will not be able to fulfill their laboratory objectives. Our budget is very limited this year and every donation makes a difference in our students ability to obtain their high school diploma, as well as meeting requirements set forth by programs that I teach.
