My Students

My students have never been outside the area where they live. They are studying ancient history and have no idea where Asia, India, Rome and Athens are in relation to where they live. My hope is that by having globes at their tables they will be able to better visualize where these places are.

These kids are amazing.

They are so full of energy and spirit and thirst for knowledge. They are like brand new sponges out of the package and they soak up all the information that is given to them. They love to learn about these ancient cultures and how similar and different they are to how we live now. They love the Code of Hammurabi and how it gave equal rights to men and women. They like how direct and to the point punishments for transgressions were.

My Project

My kids right now are sharing one globe for a classroom of 29-32 students. We pass it around and each of them look up where these places are and where they are in relation to where we live. It is very time consuming and tedious and the rest of the class is eager to learn where these places are and they are bored waiting for the globe. By having multiple globes, each table will be able to look up the places that we are learning about and will be able to have a more immediate access to the information and location.

I know for sure that having these globes will enrich my students experience in learning about ancient civilizations and where they were located in relation to the countries that are there now.
