Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are academically as well as ethically diverse. They are highly motivated to learn and earn the best grades possible. Majority of my students check their grades as soon as they get their phone in the afternoon. My students are willing to use my constructive feedback to improve their work to get a better grade I love that they are interested in their learning and take ownership of their learning.

Even though I work in a district that historically has had the majority of its students being Spanish speakers from the Dominican Republic, my ninth graders are from other Spanish speaking countries in South America, from a Ecuador to Mexico.

A few of my students are from Eastern Europe, various countries in Africa and some that were born and raised in America. I like to refer to them as a mini- United Nations. I learn as much from my students as they learn from me as I have been purposely implementing Culturally Responsive Lessons.

My Project

As learners of Global History it is important that we have a visual idea of where the places, nations or regions we discuss in global class are located.

The Explorer Globes will supplement all lessons by having groups located where on the globe we are studying in each unit and possibly each lesson.

The goal is for them to create a flag with information about each place, nation or region at the end of each unit that includes: culture, language, religion, historical context and geographic context and one Enduring Issue that particular place, nation and or region is facing.

This project will help them prepare for their Global Regents in the 10th grade and provide them with an enhance understanding of geography.
