This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This year in the library we have been learning about all the things that libraries provide beyond books. Our session on podcasts was particularly well received and we've been talking about oral histories and how the library could create an archive and document of the students' time at Global Family School.
We've been using borrowed equipment to record interviews and conversations to document the students' own experiences here.
We would love the students to have new equipment that they could use to record at recess and lunch. Interviewing fellow students and school staff empowers students to use their voice and helps with oral language skills. We are also using it as a tool to learn about questions of privacy and access, choices of what to share about yourself and what to keep private, and are using the whole project to understand how privacy and the internet interact.
In addition to being a great learning resource, it's just a lot of fun for the students! They've been having a blast and we would love for the school to have this equipment long-term so that school assemblies, special activities, and day-to-day life can be documented and preserved.
