My Students

My students are learning Korean as their second language. Most of my students are not Korean. They are learning Korean to fulfill their foreign language credits in order to receive a high school diploma. I also teach second and third-generation Korean Americans.

My students come from all parts of Queens with various economic, educational, cultural and language backgrounds.

They learn the Korean language, culture, and heritage in my class and we need a lot of resources since the city budget is very tight on education.

My Project

My classroom library has some books but they are outdated. I need to replenish the classroom library with new books for the students who are learning Korean as a second language. I ordered bilingual books to support beginners and non-heritage students to understand Korean literature. Also, I ordered a comic cookbook so students can engage in cooking Korean cuisine. These books will be a great resource for everyone in my class. I will integrate the stories in my lessons so students can learn Korean culture through literature. Students can try to cook Korean food using the cookbook so they can teach their family members about Korean culture and food.
