Gizmos Virtual Lab and Simulation Subscription

My Project

I teach very inquisitive ninth-grade students. They are always up for a challenge and love hands-on experiences. My classes love to explore and test their knowledge in order to find solutions to everyday questions.

My ninth graders are just entering high school, and I want them to be as engaged as possible so they don't lose that love of learning.

Many of them are looking to go into careers that have to do with life science and would jump at an opportunity to use more hands-on experiences. This lab simulation program would offer them an opportunity to explore what they read about in class in a more meaningful way. Gizmos is a library of over 400 high-quality virtual labs and simulations, including lab writing and quiz materials that can be customized. Students can explore and learn together in class or at their own pace from home later. Labs are inquiry-based, but the Gizmos can also be used as part of a lesson for demonstrations and discussions during regular class periods.

Students need access to great digital tools to keep real science learning going even while we are not as hands-on as we would like.

Some labs, like building an element or observing an entire ecosystem, aren't something we could do in the classroom in reality anyway, so a virtual lab tool like this is very valuable.

Because Gizmos are so specialized to science subjects, this product is not part of the resources available to teachers from our district yet. We hope that by piloting lessons using Gizmos, we can encourage our school district to invest in this resource in the future.
