My Project

We are serving a group of students who face barriers to learning and are included in the generalized classroom. Our students deserve support to assist them with the required English language arts curriculum. "The Giver" by Lois Lowry is the only book on our reading list that has a graphic novel version to assist our diverse population.

Research indicates a concerning decline in reading among teenagers, with only 31.4% of children aged 14 to 16 reading comics, compared to 49.7% of those aged 8 to 11.

Graphic novels serve as valuable tools, as they provide visual context clues that assist students when their attention wanes or vocabulary becomes challenging.

The graphic novel emphasizes complex themes of this classic dystopian novel like conformity, individualism, and memory with some panels in vivid color where as other layouts omit color. Undoubtedly, the project will enhance comprehension and will make the process of reading a compelling narrative more enjoyable!
