My Students

I am the teacher of a wonderful group of 2nd graders that love to be in school, learn about new things, and be with their friends. Sadly, this year we currently cannot be in our school building. I teach in a Title 1 School in Virginia. We are a Pre-K through 8th grade building. Nearly 900 students call our school their "home", where students from many diverse backgrounds come to explore, engage, & learn about the world around them. I have students in my class this year representing many parts of this world. Along with having students from Virginia, Florida, & Texas, I have students representing the countries of France, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Philippines & Mexico.

For many of my students, school is more than just a place to learn, but also a place to feel nurtured and supported.

Even during virtual learning I want my students to receive the support they need. My goal is to make their at home learning as much like their classroom learning as possible.

My Project

This school year, more than any other school year, my students need access to books on their reading level that they can read at home. Imagine sitting in a comfortable chair, with a warm blanket wrapped around your shoulders. Then, think about this...

What if each of my students could pick out a chapter book from an exciting selection of books written by their favorite authors?

Then, what if they could take that book home, read it with their family, and then keep it for their very own? It’s my hope to provide a book for each student. It saddens my heart when I hear a child say to me they can’t do their reading homework because they don’t have any books.

Please help me get books into the hands of the children I teach.
