My Students

We are two teachers in an integrated first grade classroom setting of 26 students; approximately forty percent of our students have special needs and most of them live below the poverty line. Our students are faced with many challenges both inside and outside of the classroom. Many of our students live in either public housing, shelters, or foster homes and all our students receive free lunch based on their socioeconomic status.

Our classroom is a place where our students can feel safe and aspire to achieve regardless of their environmental circumstances.

We strive to give our students the tools they need to change their life. We see their eagerness to learn and succeed, which makes us eager to provide them with the best education possible.

We hope that you can help us by funding our projects. We appreciate anything you can give. Thank you!

My Project

Having a set of tablets in our classroom will allow us to differentiate our teaching based on each student's individual needs. The students will use the tablets to master an array of skills in technology, science, math, and English.

As teachers of lower income students, we are always searching for ways to bridge the digital gap between our students and students who have the means available to purchase their own tablets and computers.

The bean bag chairs will be used in our quiet areas; our library and independent reading stations. In order to achieve our goal of giving our students the tools they need to ultimately attend college, they must become exceptional readers and writers. Our goal is to have our students delve into rich literary works and encourage independent reading in a colorful and comfortable library.

A room divider will allow us to parallel teach (two teachers teaching the same subject in different areas of the room to smaller groups of students). This will allow us to focus on a group of 13 students each, rather than an entire class of 26 students. We also need each child to have a seat pocket on the back of their chair for extra storage. By having all materials right on their chair, this will decrease the amount of movement in our classroom and increase the amount of learning time. Students will not have to get up to find supplies; everything they need will be right at their desks.
