My Students

Imagine having a creative idea and nowhere to "put it". My students need the creative outlet your much appreciated donation could provide.

As a product of the education system of New York City it is with great pride that I teach where I grew up.

Unfortunately, things have changed and these amazing inner city kids don't have the "extras" that all children should be provided with, such as blank books and colored pencils. My student's imaginations are alive and need a place to live.

My Project

The resources I am requesting will undoubtedly help my students in that it will give them the proper tools needed to give their imaginations a place to flourish. I am requesting blank books and colored pencils because my students do not realize that they too are authors and illustrators. It seems that they think that telling the stories which live in their minds is something "not for them". Simply having the proper tools would immediately show them that they too are worthy. With the books and pencils I plan on having my 5th graders author and illustrate fictional stories. After that I plan on having a "publishing party" where parents and other students from different classes could come and listen to the stories. I envision a celebration of writing and art that would be a direct result of your generous help.

This project is important and it will remind my students that we all have stories to tell.
