This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Nowadays technology is not a luxury is a necessity. Our students were born in the age of technology and anything that is not technologically advanced is not of their interest. Lets give education a fighting chance by using technology as a teaching tool.

My students live in a small community located in NM.

Most of them come from Juarez, MX looking for a better future. Their first language is Spanish and besides struggling with a language barrier, most of them also struggle with poverty, family issues, and lack of interest amongst other things. Most of my second graders come from families in which education is not a priority. Parents are usually working trying to make ends meet and do not have time, energy or the desire to dedicate time to their children's academic life. As a result the students come to school because they have to and not because they want to. I want to change this by using technology to engage students in education.

My Project

By using the two iPods to download educational applications that address reading, math, and science, I will give my students the opportunity to use technology to promote education. There are many inexpensive and free applications that can be downloaded that allow students to explore academic concepts through games, and other multimedia formats. Besides making the learning experiences fun, engaging, and meaningful, students are also learning to use technology as a tool. This is very important considering that we are preparing students for the future.

If this project is fully funded my students will use the iPods to explore academic concepts in a meaningful way.

Students are attracted to technology and as educators we are competing with TV and gaming systems amongst other things. Using the iPod educational applications as a tool will give education a fighting chance.
