My Students

We practice functional, vocational, and communication skills to make our students as independent as possible. Now, they're becoming entrepreneurs to help support our ENL (English as a New Language) culinary program! We voted to design and create perler bead magnets, keychains, earrings, and other perler bead projects to sell to the school community. The money generated from the perler bead sales will generate revenue and raise money to routinely purchase the ingredients and supplies the students will then use in their ENL Bake Shop Class. Help our students become activists within their school community! Help us fund our perler bead project to support our functional growth and resources!

My Project

My English language learners with special needs engage in vocational and functional tasks to allow them to be as independent as possible. They practice real-world application skills within our classroom to prepare them as much as possible for success both inside and outside of the classroom. As part of the students' programming, throughout the week, they work in the school's Bake Shop class to practice culinary and daily living skills- but this year ingredients and funding are limited! Therefore, my students decided that they wanted to help and give back too! They voted to create a product to sell to their school community to help generate revenue to continue their cooking program! With these materials and supplies listed, students will create various projects out of Perler Beads, such as magnets, earrings, pins, and keychains. Then they will sell their designs to their peers and school staff and put the proceeds raised towards routinely buying ingredients for their Bake Shop class. Within this process, students engage in and practice skills such as: researching patterns, following sequences, functional math/reading, sorting, gross and fine motor skills, organization, cleaning, money management, communication, and interpersonal skills.

The funding for this project will go directly to the materials and supplies students need to create their projects and then sell them. Help my co-teacher and myself to help our students!
