My sixth graders are entering a whole new world! As they begin middle school, I want to encourage their imaginations with magical fiction.
The fantastical settings and events in these two novel sets--The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and The Lightning Thief--will get my students excited about reading and open their imaginations.
Many have experienced loss, fear, and hardship over the last few years. Never has it been more important to give children a love of reading. We can show them how escaping into other worlds can help them cope with the realities of this one.
As they read these popular classics, my students will keep reading journals, illustrate their ideas, and discuss how the characters solve the problems they face. Even my Hispanic students will have full access to the text through the Spanish versions I am requesting!
