My Students

My students LOVE art, but we can hardly ever do it because my Wal-Mart watercolors are really worn down. They ask me constantly when we will do art again. I want to fulfill that for them.

My students attend school in a high poverty area in Texas.

All of my students are Hispanic and bilingual. Our school has been very supportive in a lot of ways, and my kids have progressed so much in English and Spanish over the last two years that I have been with them. Our school really places a focus on reading, math, and science, and the ancillary subjects like art and music are not emphasized. That is why I am seeking these resources.

My Project

I think that any teacher or parent that cares for their student wants their child to have the gift of art- the ability to create new things and see their world in a different way. These resources are a small step in the right direction. We have done a few art lessons with my materials that I bought from Wal-Mart but we need some more. I believe that students will be able to accomplish a lot of art lessons with these materials. Down the road, I will request or acquire more materials so that I can continue to teach them and help them to be artists.

I want my students to have the opportunity that a lot of their wealthier peers have.

I want for them to be able to draw, paint, sing, and dance. This project is just a small move in the right direction. Your help is greatly appreciated.
