My Students

My students are some of the most eager to learn people I have encountered in my teaching career!

My students are bold, unafraid and have a willingness to learn that drives me to be a better teacher each day.

Though many of my students come from low-income households, that doesn't stop them from being creative, exploratory, and passionate about music and the arts.

Our music class gives my students the opportunity to express their ideas, thoughts, and creativity when performing or composing. Music sends students around the world to learn about different cultures and points of view. My students are elated to use music as a tool to see the world from a different vantage point.

I am so fortunate to work with 800 amazing elementary students year-round. We are located in the heart of Queens NY. We are a Title I school with many of the school population being English language learners and students with special needs. In my class, I seek to teach my students not only music, but also citizenship, critical thinking, community, teamwork and leadership to help our students grow into wonderful caring people.

My Project

My students will enjoy adding small percussion instruments to songs we use every day. These instruments, including a Djembe and Boomwhackers will make learning music engaging for all students who will get to choose a variety of ways to participate in our class. It will help them develop critical listening skills, fine and gross motor skills, teamwork, performance skills, and overall music skills to make my students better musicians.

Students will be able to play all of the variety of instruments I have requested throughout the year and will use the instruments to enhance their music skills and compose their own music.
