My Students

This is my first full year of teaching. I started teaching in the classroom, January 2021. My students come from a low-income area. Over 80% of our student population receives free or reduced-price lunch. I would like to incorporate a learning environment where the students can come to school feeling successful. Like many other educators, I am cultivating a strong learning community.

Being kinesthetic learners, it is vital for my students to have things they can see and manipulate to be successful.

My students are enrolled in a Title I-funded school and are in the DHH (Deaf/Hard of Hearing) Program. They typically do not use their ears for learning, they rely heavily on what they see and feel. Because of the pandemic, it is imperative now more than ever for them to have their own materials.

My Project

These materials and resources will help to keep my students healthy and safe. The cleaning products will assist me in keeping our classroom germ-free. This will help in preventing students from becoming sick and being absent.

My students communicate using their hands and it is difficult to keep papers from moving around on their desks.

I will use the scotch tape to keep laminated activities on their desks and since the tape is clear, the activities will stay in place (without them even noticing).

The sensory fidgets will be a part of my treasure box and will be great motivation to promote desirable behavior and an environment conducive to learning. While my students will look at these incentives as pure fun, I know they serve a greater purpose. These sensory fidgets provide a level of stress relief that my students desperately need during this time.

We are in a Title I-funded school and many of our students come hungry and also suffer from food insecurity. These scrumptious snacks will give my students full tummies and they will be able to focus on learning.
