My Students

I teach Computer Science (CS) in Queens, New York. Our school is a special place with a rich composition of children from diverse backgrounds, particularly serving a large population of English Language Learners and students with disabilities. Many of our students come from families that face financial hardships that limit accessibility to technology. We are actively working to close the Digital Divide through CS instruction and work with donors will help ensure equitable access to technology tools for all of our students.

All children should be exposed to rich STEAM and Computer Science learning opportunities despite socioeconomic or cultural background.

My Project

My students are excited about programming but have some trouble understanding the relationship their coding has connected to physical computing. By providing opportunities to relate their programming to physical hardware will only enhance their comprehension of Computer Science related concepts.

Having access to Micro bits will give then immediate feedback that informs them as to whether or not they are programming successfully.

Students can program their boards to display LED responses that have meaning and relate to multiple content areas. For example, students can use Micro bits to create wearable tech for dance routines or use Micro bits to help record data for science projects. The circuit boards will be used to match student interest and reinforce CS concepts.
