My Students

My students are working hard to do school in such a crazy time. They are learning to communicate with me through email, or in Zoom meetings. They are driving up to the school to pick up a physical copy of a textbook when they realize that that is what they need to learn best.

I am so proud of my students as they show up first thing in the morning, still in pajamas, to join my class together on Zoom.

They maintain a sense of humor; they humor me by answering my trivia questions. They send me pictures for my "Pet of the Week" contest. They are good kids who deserve the best I can give them.

My Project

Y'all! This is the most excited I've ever been about any of my projects! Last year, I started the year letting kids pick their own books to read with the theme of race or diversity. Even with kids learning from home, it was so fulfilling to hear kids excited to be able to pick out their own books, at their own reading level.

This year with my seniors I will be starting out the year letting them pick out their own non-fiction books to read.

There are so many great Young Adult non-fiction books out there with themes of racism, immigration, mental illness, drugs and LGBTQ+ issues. I can't wait to see what they pick!
