This selection of reading materials covers a wide range of topics, appealing to a large spectrum of our students. They have been carefully selected for recommended reading. Not only are these books award winning and listed on multiple national organizations best of lists, but there are also titles that our students have shown a particular interest in reading. For example, several of these titles are a part of a series, such as The Good Girls' Guide to Murder and The Inheritance Games. The popularity of these series creates a high demand among our students. Providing our students the newest, most popular books ensures the success of the library. We like to keep them coming back for more!
Books are vital to young adults, offering thoughtful interpretations of the world and humanity.
They are empowering and mind expanding, helping not only with our understanding of our daily lives, but with the vocabulary and context in which we assess ourselves. Studies have shown that teenagers who read books regularly, do significantly better on tests and have improved memory function. Research also suggests that reading can work as a serious stress reliever. Of course, the most important thing is offering students books they WANT to read, which is why we strive to keep the latest new releases on the library shelves. Let's give them something to think about. Let's give them the gift of reading!
