My Students

I just started working in the school district of Philadelphia and have heard a bunch of different stories regarding the students at our school. I am one of those people who looks for positivity in all situations -- I cannot stand it when people start talking negatively about students they don't even know.

I think my students are amazing young adults.

They come from so many different backgrounds and come from situations that most people cannot imagine. My students need to know that they are cared for and that I will be with them every step of the way. Unfortunately, they do not have the supplies that they need in order to be successful -- due to no fault of their own. I need to make sure that I am able to provide the tools for success, both physically and academically.

My Project

The paper, pencils, coloring utensils, and pencil sharpener will make a huge difference in my students' lives because supplies will be one less thing that they need to worry about. Urban school students often have adult responsibilities at home, and they have so many other things to worry about than bringing a pencil to class.

By providing a student with something as simple as a pencil, it shows the student that I have compassion and empathy for them.

It shows that I can understand that not everything is perfect at home and they need some help to be successful. It shows that I BELIEVE in them! My students need a change in the world. Education helps people change and challenge the world - my students need that chance. They need a chance to receive a proper education!
