My Students

For many of my students I am their first teacher and my classroom is the first school setting they have ever encountered. Living in a low-income community, many of them have never experienced life outside of their neighborhood and many come from broken and struggling homes. Yet they come in so full of life and eager to soak up everything around them.

Each one of my students is special and brings their own unique personality to the classroom.

I see and hear so many troubling things and am amazed each and every day at their strength and drive to succeed. They each deserve the best possible learning environment and opportunities that we can give!

My Project

I was shocked when I walked into my new kindergarten classroom this year to find that there were no books for my students to read. Not even one. After asking other teachers for donations I received some older curriculum nonfiction readers. These books were not engaging for my young readers and although I was grateful, I was saddened by the lack of classroom libraries in my school.

Reading is such a vital skill, but also such a wonderful gift.

Many of my students come from homes where they do not have books. I want to give my students every opportunity to fall in love with reading. I want my students to always have a book in hand. Please help me to give the gift of reading to my students by providing them with a classroom library.
