My Students

My students enter my AP class expecting to be both challenged and moved by the literature we will be reading. While there are class sets of novels available in our department library, most are outdated which makes it more difficult to reach the interest level of my students.

My students need access to more contemporary novels - novels that will foster meaningful conversations in the classroom, novels that will allow them to connect to the experiences of the characters, and novels that will extend their view of the world.

Remember that one novel in high school that changed the world for you? That is the experience I would like to offer my students with the novel, The Kite Runner.

My Project

My students live in different world: a world of cultures, a world of wars, and a world of challenges. I truly believe that expanding their literary knowledge past the classics will help them understand and enjoy contemporary novels in a more poignant way. In addition, they could use their knowledge of this novel on their AP exam in the spring semester.

Help me transport them to another country, another culture, another government in order to gain a deeper understanding that even then, we have the same trials and tribulations as humans.
