Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach second grade in an low income, struggling urban community in New York. I am lucky enough to teach a group of 12 Gifted and Talented students for the second year (I was also their first grade teacher.)

We use music all the time in my classroom. When we work independently, I put on soft, relaxing music that calms all of us down and helps us concentrate. I also use relaxation music for our weekly yoga lessons led by a volunteer yoga teacher. Sometimes, we use music to celebrate our writing when we are having a publishing party. A classroom CD player gives us more than music. We also listen to recorded books that would be to difficult to read on our own. As a matter of fact, this center is one of the most popular places in the classroom!Sadly, our CD player died last month. The students and I have really missed the music in our daily routines.

I am asking for a donation for a CD player that also has the capabilities to be used with a computer. This upgrade will help when we all want to listen to a book from a popular website that we use. (Our laptop does not get loud enough for all of us to hear.) A CD player with an Ipod dock would also help make downloading some books easier (now I buy them and transfer them to a CD format).

Your donation would bring music and taped books back into my students' daily routines. They are a highly motivated group of Gifted Students who are eager to learn everything about the world!
