My Project

Recently, our students came together to decide to care for a bearded dragon in the library. This was after extensive research and debate among the students, and now, the bearded dragon needs supplies.

All of the supplies in this project have been selected by students according to inquiry-based research!

They believe these things will provide our new library friend with the most enrichment and happiness. We already have obtained a terrarium and other basics, but these are things that the students have deemed necessary for the bearded dragon. They've selected a water dispenser that mimics the way dragons drink in their habitat, a lamp stand to hold the necessary lighting at the appropriate angle for optimal heating, various tank enrichments to keep the dragon happy and warm based on articles they read, a soak that keeps the dragon healthy, a light that is best for night time so the dragon can rest according to its natural rhythms, a thermometer so students can monitor tank temperatures, and supplements to maintain the dragon's health.

Research shows that pets in the classroom have many benefits to socio-emotional learning as well as science education.
