Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are from a low-income and high needs area in the Bronx. They are of diverse cultures and speak a variety of languages at home. A large problem with lower level learners is that they sometimes feel discouraged and give up easily. I want to give these students an opportunity to succeed and to feel good about learning.

I try my best to make learning fun for my students, while also trying to make material relatable to their lives.

My Project

This year teachers will not be receiving any government funding for back-to-school supplies. I have usually spent, not only the allocated funds but lots of my own money on my classroom set-up at the beginning of the year. With no funding this year I am discouraged about how to create the warm and colorful classroom environment I have had in the past. With everything going on in the world right now, I know there is a lot of anxiety in students getting back into the classroom. I want my students to feel welcomed by walking into a beautiful and organized classroom. I also know it may be a struggle for some of them to get their own school supplies and I want to be able to provide these things for them so they do not have to worry about it.

These donations will go towards classroom decor, supplies for students, wallpaper and borders for bulletins, and some cleaning products.
