My Students

The children of Harlem are a special bunch! My first grade class this year live and thrive off of the education that is given to them each and every day at our school site. These Harlem first graders continue to show their teachers that they are capable of much more than what we expect from them. Whether it be through the arts or sciences, these Teeny-Tiny Harlem Scholars show excellence in learning all year long, by doing their very best all year long.

These Harlem first graders deserve the very best, and it is my goal to make sure that they receive an education that is innovative, effective, fun, and filled with adventure!

These students learn best when they are given opportunities to explore life independently. My goal this year is to make sure that my students have ample opportunities to learn through exploration and play all while keeping their minds and bodies in tip-top condition.

My Project

Think about your classroom growing up. Think about your favorite books and the excitement of reading about a character that you relate to. Did the characters look like you? Were the characters white? The vast majority of children's books feature white characters, and not all students feel represented.

Children of color deserve books that they can relate to with characters that look like them.

Books should be a mirror and a window. A mirror to see yourself represented, and a window to see characters different from yourself.

Give the students in our classroom the opportunity to have quality books that can be a window and a mirror for them. These books will be used for read-aloud in our classroom and will be loved by our children for years to come.
