My Students

The English Language Learning population in my school has exploded! I am the ESL teacher and ELL coordinator. When I arrived, there were 18 ELLs. Today, there are 66, and counting.... I would love to use Rosetta Stone in my Newcomers class as a fun learning supplement and assessment tool.

My students are from many different countries: Honduras, Dominican Republic, Bangladesh, etc.

My students live in East New York, Brooklyn, which is an economically depressed area of New York City. My newcomers arrived here, to the United States, as recently as one week ago and I am the one that is entrusted with the task of teaching them English. Please help me by giving me yet another interactive tool to use from my bag of ESL tricks.

My Project

I was planning on using the program with the whole class as a supplemental activity to my lessons. Last year, I tried this with my Newcomers class at the time with a version of Rosetta Stone that I was not allowed to keep, and I found it to be a fun, 10 minute activity that they all looked forward to every day. It is a fun and interactive way to acquire the English language. If I am able to install this program on a few computers, multiple students will be able to use this program throughout the day as well. For example, when one of my newcomers finishes an assignment, they may be allowed to use Rosetta Stone.

I'm always looking for ways to make my English lessons interesting.

I like using technology, and this program is right up my alley, and perfect for my new students. I want students to hear other voices, besides my own and their teachers. This is also a fun way to assess if they are grasping what I am teaching them. Please help me make their ESL lessons more interactive and fun!!
