My students need books for book clubs next year: The Hunger Games, Uglies, and Slake's Limbo. I am awesome at picking high-interest books that kids love, but I need help purchasing these books!
The students I will be teaching in September are a unique bunch! Next year, more than ten percent of the students that will be coming to my English Language Arts class speak no English at all, having newly arrived here from Asia and the Middle East. They will be learning alongside native English speakers who are working to secure coveted spots in the competitive New York City specialized high schools. It's going to be more important than ever to really differentiate my instruction to try to engage all of these kids!
My Project
My students need books for book clubs next year: The Hunger Games, Uglies, and Slake's Limbo. My students are seventh graders who haven't yet found the best book they've ever read, but with your help, they could! I read books like The Girl With the Silver Eyes when I was twelve and I never forgot it. I'd like my kids to have a similar experience next year.
My plan is to use these books for book clubs next year.
Book clubs really help students to get excited about reading, but the books that we have are not the ones that they really want to read. We need a wide selection of high interest books to really engage these kids.
Help me give these kids a reading experience they will love and always remember.
