This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Give a teacher a hand by helping her provide basic supplies which are not supplied by the office and therefore would otherwise come out of her own pocket. It's amazing the basic classroom supplies which teachers have to pay for themselves. Most other professionals do not have to pay for items to help their clients, but teachers sure do!
My project will assist me in teaching 2nd graders AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), a college-readiness program designed to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in school.
Organization is part of AVID's emphasis in elementary school. Colorful, well organized graphic organizers will be made with gel pens. Writing with a regular marker won't last on a ziploc bookbag or supply bag (which teachers also have to pay for), but Sharpies will. If a school happens to have Sharpies they are black only. Teaching students to organize their assignments is another way to use AVID in the elementary classroom. This is why I'm asking for colored two pocket folders. I am also asking for colorful stickers to help organize student's seats by color. For example, I will write numbers 1-6 on the paw print stickers. When I call students to come to move around the room I can call blue paws, or person number 1 to move, so everyone doesn't move at the same time.
Along with the paw print stickers, I am very much in need of a new paw print calendar and more nametags. So this request is a little different from others. I am requesting materials for me, the teacher, to use to assist the students.
