My Project

I am an Exceptional Education teacher in Richmond, Virginia. I have a club I started during the Covid-19 virtual year called Girlz 4 Gearz Auto Club.

The Girls 4 Gears Club is a 'girl power' organization that will teach young girls and ladies basic automotive operations as well as basic auto care and safety as well as how a car works, and how to fix it herself for minor breakdowns and maintenance.

It's also for those who have an affinity for fast cars, bikes, trucks ,big engines, and mechanics in general. They will be instructed on auto safety and help to build confidence and independence with and in an industry that usually takes advantage of those they feel may have a lesser knowledge.

The hope is not only to bolster the love of STEM, but also create an increased interest amongst young women in becoming auto mechanics or even create the next big automotive design!

Now, although this club is geared towards girls, we do not discriminate. If there are any boys or young gentlemen who'd like to also learn about cars or who have an affinity for auto mechanics they are more than welcome to join! The extended branch of G4G is called GearHeadz Crew that is all inclusive, everyone is welcome to join.

Being we were virtual when this club was created, there was no way to actually have the hands-on experiences I was hoping to introduce. I'd like to teach how to perform basic oil changes, changing tires, checking tire air pressure, as well as providing a real life example of the basic parts and functions of an automobile while working with a real vehicle in an educational setting.
