My Students

The girls at our school come from everywhere. From Mali to the Dominican Republic and everywhere in between, they cross oceans and continents to find themselves in our classrooms in New York City. They are bright, diverse, fierce, proud and they are hungry for opportunity.

As an unscreened, Title One school, many of our students come to us far below grade level in math and reading.

They struggle with learning and behavioral disabilities, traveling from communities that commonly experience violence or crime or from single parent households that are almost always run by devoted mothers who want nothing but the best for their daughters.

Many of our girls are eager to experience success. It's up to our school's team of educators, counselors, administrators and other school staff to provide the tools, materials and other supports necessary for each young woman to reach her full potential.

My Project

Now in our 5th year, the Arts and Crafts club at our school is bursting with creativity and ideas. Having access to necessary supplies such as paint and canvases allows us to undertake long-term projects that the girls can really invest their time, effort, and creativity. Since many of our students have been in craft club for multiple years, new and unique craft ideas are always welcome, which is why students have requested rubber block making to create, and even re-create, some of their favorite creations.

By donating to our club, students will have access to quality resources and supplies that public schools often don't have the budget for.

Craft club is an outlet for our students to express themselves, relax, and re-energize. Our students have shown a tremendous interest in the arts and this project will only help enrich their artistic abilities.
