My Students

The students in my class are 3rd-5th grade Gifted and Talented students. Half of my students are females that have not been exposed to the field of computer science. These girls, that have an IQ of 130 lack a knowledge of computer science, because our school is not able to provide these classes due to a shortage of school district funds.

These girls are very bright, creative, and innovative.

They have the ability to do great things with their lives, if they are given the right support, encouragement, and tools.

The GATE teachers are given a very small budget that is to be used first and foremost to buy our testing supplies. After testing supplies are purchased, we have very little to buy the resources needed to provide rigorous curriculum. Gifted students have a variety of interests, talents, and abilities, and we just don't have the funding to give the students opportunities and experiences they need to enhance their abilities.

My Project

In a gifted and talented classroom, students are given the opportunity to experience curriculum in a more advanced approach.

The introduction of computer programming and coding, using Chromebooks, could lead gifted and talented girls into the field of technology for their future.

Without these experiences, in the gifted classroom, these girls might not have the opportunity to enhance their natural abilities and talents.

The Chromebooks will allow students to use software to plan, test and modify sequences of instructions from a variety of real life robotic behaviors. The students will use critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, and communication to build and program the robots.
