My Students

These are unprecedented times. Never did I imagine that when I said goodbye for spring break in March it would mean that it was our last day in the classroom & on the field. However, a new year & new hopes are on the horizon!

My athletes and I have courageously embarked on this distance learning journey!

My athletes are from a historically fragile community. We live in a food desert that makes up for its inconsistent resources by providing a strong sense of community support, activism, outreach, and opportunities to support our youth in many capacities. My athletes endure situations that would break the spirit of many adults, yet they continue to persevere and put their best foot forward to accomplish their goals and improve living conditions for their families. I am continually inspired by my scholar-athletes.

We participate in summer league runs, community fundraisers, academic/performance mentoring, & train at least 5x per week. We are actively engaged in all sorts of different platforms, training resources, and learning new things; to ensure that we're preparing athletes in all capacities! Our girls find joy in serving the community!

My Project

My goal is to provide additional resources for scholars to practice identity development through exposure to sports! We are currently piloting a girls cross country program.

Continuing to increase investment in sports at all schools is important.

I am truly committed to making youth sports accessible to student-athletes in the North Tulsa community. Consolidation of programs has become fairly common in urban and rural areas where falling populations and increasing poverty are putting pressure on participation, though it's not clear that because struggling programs become more "competitive," more kids are trying out. In fact, one challenge is getting kids the proper tools needed to further their skills. These items will help athletes by providing them with team gear to promote unity in the effort to impact performance on and off the track. The clothing will ensure peace of mind and participation for scholars that don't have the luxury of being able to afford comfortable workout attire. These seemingly small gestures mean volumes to our girls.
