Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work with students from many different classes with many different needs. My students range from bilingual students, to English speaking students, to special education students, and beyond. The students that I work with come from a community that does not have much. When they come to school they are pumped to learn and I do whatever I can to support their learning. I try to give them as many opportunities as possible by showing, doing, and allowing them to collaborate on as many projects as possible.

My students are wonderful students who have passion for learning.

However I am specifically advocating for four young ladies who have given up their recess periods, once a week, to sit and begin learning how to play guitar.

My Project

I have invited several students to learn guitar during my lunch period. Four young ladies have stuck with it over the year and have learned enough to give them a love of music and a gift that will be with them for life! I would like to continue this next year, but I would like for these fifth grade girls to be able to perform a Jimi Hendrix version of the Star-Spangled Banner for their own graduation! The guitars would be used year after year to introduce new students to the love of music, and over time I would love to expand - but for now, let there be ROCK!!! I know this is short notice, but can you help make this possible? Invite your friends and family to help out. Thank you.
