My Project
If I asked you to think back to who you were in 3rd-5th grade, how would you describe yourself? Could you have used a supportive and uplifting group to be a part of, to show you just how strong and capable you really were? Girls on the Run is a nation-wide program in which students in grades 3-5 learn life skills through fun, engaging lessons that celebrate the joy of movement. In Girls on the Run, students will aspire to achieve their limitless potential.
Girls on the Run combines lessons that are intended to enhance self-esteem, promote positive and useful problem-solving strategies, and foster healthy relationships with developmentally appropriate training for a fun and exciting 5k event at the end of the program!
As an avid runner, I can confidently say that the sport of running as well as being a part of the running community, has changed my life for the better. My love for the sport and community inspired me to bring Girls on the Run to my school 3 years ago. Students in my school absolutely love the program and eagerly show up to our sessions with determination and joy. I cannot even begin to explain the transformation that I see in our girls from week to week. GOTR is not just a running program, there is a huge social-emotional component to it as well, including lessons on empathy, being a good friend, and activating your "star power". The 5k race at the end of each session has been beyond joyful - every girl completed her race, felt proud, had fun, and talked endlessly about how it was the best day ever!
Due to budget restraints, it is not possible for my school to cover the GOTR site fee. Please help me continue this successful program!
