My Project

If I asked you to think back to who you were in 3rd-5th grade, how would you describe yourself? Could you have used a supportive and uplifting group to be a part of, to show you just how strong and capable you really were? Girls on the Run is a nation-wide program in which students in grades 3-5 learn life skills through fun, engaging lessons that celebrate the joy of movement.

Girls on the Run combines lessons that are intended to enhance self-esteem, promote positive and useful problem-solving strategies and foster healthy relationships with developmentally appropriate training for a fun and exciting 5k event at the end of the program!

In GOTR, students will aspire to achieve their limitless potential.

As an avid runner, I can confidently say that the sport of running has changed my life for the better. I had known about Girls on the Run for some time, completed the training to be a GOTR coach, and was able to bring the program to my school two years ago. I cannot even begin to explain the transformation that I saw in our girls from week to week. GOTR is not just a running program, there is a huge social-emotional component to it as well, including lessons on empathy, being a good friend, and activating your "star power". Our fall and spring session participants completed a 5k race which was beyond joyful - every girl completed her race, felt proud, had fun, and talked endlessly about how it was the BEST DAY EVER and how they can't wait to join again this year.

Due to budget restraints, it is not possible for my school to cover the GOTR site fee for the fall and spring sessions, even with financial assistance. Please help me continue this successful program!
